ART DEALERS

This has finally dropped, Uncommon Nasa linked up with me not too long after the "Here's the Sound" video released and wanted something using the same style. Obviously this has it's own unique fingerprint, Nasa wanted something that'd visually work with the "Art Dealer" themes and I was already having visions of the surreal art gallery.

Uncommon Nasa & Short Fuze don't fuck around, coming up with the perfect visual representations to match the lyrics, while at the same time being a perfectionist was no easy feat...But here we are....

"Art Dealers" is taken from the Guillotine Crowns album "Hills to Die On" steam or purchase it right here: -

Shadeprint.Design x Threadless

Shadeprint designs are now exclusively moving to Threadless!

All of my old work will remain on Redbubble, Society6, Zazzle & Tee-Spring. However new designs and upgrades will now all exclusively appear on Threadless.

X

Why move over to Threadless?

Redbubble has gone from unrewarding, to decent, to detrimental. They're pretty much "Youtube" for Apparel. If you want to deal with them, expect disappointment and a little torment, "copyright" takedowns are even more aggressive than Youtube, with less to go by (literal tags can warrant a takedown, sometimes nothing), although I've won in a few cases, Redbubble expects you to go through the entire publishing process after deleting (not suspending) an entry with a claim on it.

What's new?

My new Threadless Store will host higher quality designs and new exclusive pieces. Starting from scratch will be difficult, but things are working well so far with the publishing process. The Store is currently live CHECK IT OUT HERE!

Threadless doesn't appear to have has much search engine pulling power as Redbubble, however the uploading process is far better than Tee Spring and Society6 (quite unfortunately). Anyway, expect more updates via the Blog to snare some interest from potential customers.

Peace, *Shadeprint is now AFK*

Noir Hip-Hop

New smooth style emerging in Underground Hip-Hop?

Just this year I've been reconnecting with the sounds of Planet Asia, which of course goes hand-in-hand with Durag Dynasty (of which he is one 3
rd of). And I noticed the sample of sounds I'd been hearing, there was a stylistic trend, this also included a blend with music video. Incidentally, not too long after that I discovered Brooklyn based emcee 'Ka', who also happened to already have a collection of music videos to go with his music. Sporting a minimal yet rich feel, a lot going on, yet at the same time not over-stated. A lot of the visuals work extremely well with the sound, with a similar relaxed pace to Planet Asia's approach with "Iceberg" & "Made it".

Planet Asia's atmospheric"Iceberg"

Within a short space of time, I'd be pulling back tracks on Roc Marciano's "Rosebudd's Revenge". This recent Roc Marci project was feeling a lot like some of the aforementioned works, combined with some minimal, yet stylistic videos, it really feels like a movement, almost unaware of itself, almost accidental. "Rosebudd's Revenge" is possibly one of the best Hip-Hop projects I've heard all year, while not perfect, when Marci flows he kills, the production is also stellar, "Herringbone" is near genius in it's simplicity, which concludes with Roc rhyming over a looped flute sample, something I'd personally pay to see "unplugged".

Album teaser of Roc Marciano's "Rosebudd's Revenge"

Kool Keith also came thru with some atmospheric material with "I'm tired", a master in his art however, Keith has many styles and forms he can appear in, so this was no surprise. Yet the coincidental style that appears to be shared almost appears intentional. The music visuals for "I'm tired" play into the same hand, a fly on the wall view, setting the scene of a midnight lifestyle, slow establishing shots & the city at twilight.

Kool Keith, back by Edo G in "I'm Tired"

Of course, in conclusion, all of this could easily just be down to correlation, my own taste combined with small budget music videos & smooth as fuck emcees, however, if that's all you see, even after this has been stated, you might be missing a minor hint...This whole style I may or may not be touting, is sitting here for the taking.

Ka's "Cold Facts". A favourite of
the selection.

Personally, I'd like to see the video makers, emcees and any other artists involved in these projects to take advantage of this aesthetic, as I feel personally a lot of cats out there will appreciate seeing more of it.

Ashy.

"MF Qarz"

MF Qarz/Qart Hedgeson

The internet is a funny place. This design was originally named "MF Qarz".
However, it was probably too on the nose for the copyright sharks.

Re-named to Qart Hedgeson, this mash up of "MF DOOM", "Sonic the Hedgehog", "Quasimoto" and "Bart Simpson" shouldn't have gotten such a rough take down
due to just how ridiculous the amalgamation is....and such obvious parody too.

Qart could always use more love, so check this design out it
is currently available on a tonne of products via Redbubble.

Current Qart Hedgeson variations

Wanting to get the most of these designs, multiple editions were a must.
Mixing my collage art with my pencil art seemed to fit perfectly.
Actually, come to think of it, there does appear to be missing styles
that would fit perfectly in place with this design....
Further, Unseeing Edition and "MF Qarz" Original

Look out for more Shadeprint designs flying up on on both

Might as well mention also make music, check out my bandcamp for
my entire discography or my Soundcloud if your prefer to make some
kind compliments.

Beat Dump 6. The Influences: Blu

Beat Dump 6: The Influences
Blu
(@HerFavColor)

So Beat Dump 6 is out & since we've come this far I guess it's time to discuss
influences and other stuff that might catch a few eyes and ears.

Blu is one of those rapper/producers I've been listening to before he had
a wikipedia page. I'm not even 100% sure how I came across this guy.
What felt like a bombardment of quality rhymes over soulful beats, from
"Below the Heavens" as a basic premise of who Blu is, to "Her Favorite Colo(u)r"
a mellow dream-like journey entirely self-produced, to "NoYork" (later renamed simply "York") an experimental, psychedelic trek with a hint towards a push toward
mainstream appeal.

Blu's entire journey, as a producer or working with the likes of Exile, Madlib or Dibia$e
taught me a lot about how to flip a sample and how to be tactful with drums
and percussion's. Similar to Hip-Hop's supervillain DOOM, Blu is also masterful with
his collages of skits and dialogue samples; "Her Favorite Colo(u)r" or the lesser known "no york e mo rmx" creating atmospheric scenery piece-by-piece, leading to an
(arguably)
near flawless aesthetic for the entirety of the project.

Uncompromising in his approach, Blu has pushed a few projects with vintage or
extremely lo-fi presentation (sometimes to the ire of his fanbase), personally this
taught be a lot, sometimes creative direction takes priority over accessibility,
especially considering whatever statements you want to make, ideas you
want to get across or seeds you wish to sow.

There is TOO MUCH to go on about concerning this guys body of work,
I could talk about "Johnson & Jonson", the obvious go to guy "(So)ul Amazing",
"theGodleeBarnes(lp)", "Jesus" or "Give Me My Flowers While I can Smell Them"
all day. Blu is one of the few emcees who's flaws enhance his strengths.
